This is not an April Fool's joke
Hey everyone! This newsletter was supposed to go out yesterday, March 31, but...I forgot, so consider this March's newsletter!
You may notice this newsletter looks a little different than usual. I've switched over to Revue, Twitter's newsletter service. If things go horribly awry, I may switch back but hopefully this will be a good home for the future.
Hopefully in next month's newsletter I'll be able to tell you about a second secret project I'm working on, but I'm excited to finally reveal the first.
Book News: Stargazing
In case you missed the news, I'm incredibly excited to share that I'm writing a little book on stargazing for Chronicle Books!
It's aimed at adults and the goal is to write a small guide for anyone interested in looking at the night sky as a path to mindfulness. I can't wait for it to come out (and I can't wait to have it written and not hanging over my head!). Of course, you'll be hearing more about it over the next few months.
Writing Here, Writing There
I'm still doing a little bit of writing here and there. I waded into the discourse around Elden Ring, a new video game that's incredibly hard (I died five times in the first 30 minutes). It's designed that way, and while I get it and it's fine, it also is frustrating when you take it in the larger context of the video game industry. The money of easy mode gamers is just as green as everyone else's, but do we matter in this industry? I talked about that over at Wired.
The celebrated game has no difficulty modes, guaranteeing it will alienate some players.
If you've been watching this season of Star Trek: Picard, you can read my recaps over at StarTrek.com. This season has been so, so good. If you want to start with Episode 1 of this season, here it is:
The first episode of Star Trek: Picard’s sophomore season starts out with a bang, as an all-too-familiar klaxon signals that there’s something wrong. An intruder alert sounds as Starfleet officers rush through the halls of a ship, phasers in hand. On…
Fifth Anniversary of Desi Geek Girls
It's hard to believe that Preeti Chhibber and I have been doing our little podcast for FIVE YEARS, but we reached that milestone in February. In March, we recorded three episodes.
Here's What I Recommend in Books and More
I've been doing more reading than usual lately. I finished Secret Identity by Alex Segura, which features a queer Cuban American woman working at a comic book company in 1970s New York — and there's murder. I loved this book.
I also really loved Light Years from Home by Mike Chen, a family story with a sci-fi twist.
