It's the end of the year as we know it
Hello, everyone! I wanted to send out a short end-of-year edition of my newsletter about what I’ve been up to. I hope everyone has a lovely last part of the year, despite everything we’re facing in the world.
I’m on TikTok talking about space + science!
I started posting on TikTok this month because I was really missing a dedicated space to talk about space and science. Unlike Twitter and Instagram, I’m using TikTok exclusively to talk about these subjects — so far I’ve covered JWST (the great space observatory that’s supposed to launch Christmas Day but it was also supposed to launch in 2007, so), SpaceX’s reusability, Starlink, the Parker Solar Probe, and more. Please give me a follow over there if you’re interested!
Writing all over the internet
Since my last update, I posted some new video games columns at Wired! I talked about why New Game+ can be a great way to actually learn to play a game (versus the button mashing I usually do, thanks Horizon Zero Dawn!), why cutscenes can really suck in games, especially when you have a limited amount of time to play, and how I finally gave in and played The Sims 4 after years of avoiding it because I was afraid it would take over my life.
I’m also still recapping Star Trek: Prodigy over at StarTrek.com. The show’s on hiatus right now, but it will be back the first week of January!
Podcasts to talk about
I was a guest on an episode of theSkimm’s podcast in November, which was all about space and pop culture! We also published a few new episodes of Desi Geek Girls on The Wheel of Time, Hawkeye, Saved By the Bell, Shang-Chi, and more.
Things I recommend
I’ve been playing Cozy Grove a whole lot on the Nintendo Switch (good for people who like the idea of Animal Crossing but wanted more to do — it’s quest based), and their winter festival starts today and I’m very excited.
I’m reading the third book in Holly Black’s The Folk of the Air trilogy, the first book is The Cruel Prince and I HIGHLY recommend it.
I still am not over how For All Mankind (Apple TV+) is the best show currently on television (whether you follow the space program or not) and so few people are talking about it. Season 3 is coming soon so it’s a good time to catch up — but, as a warning, the show can be very stressful.
Keep up with me on Twitter (@skrishna), Instagram (@skrishna), and TikTok (@swapna_krishna). Thanks for reading!
