Who else is ready for spring?

Hello, all! It’s hard to believe February is over, but here we are well into 2022. There’s a lot going on in the world, so I hope you all are taking care of yourselves as well as you’re able.

Personally things are tough, but I have a lot going on work wise that I hope I’ll be able to talk about over the next couple of months, as secret projects get announced. February was actually a pretty busy month for me, and I published a lot of stuff I’m proud of.

Horizon Forbidden West and gaming

I’ve published quite a few things about Horizon Forbidden West, and I really don’t see myself stopping anytime soon. This is the best game I’ve played in years and a no-brainer for my top game of 2022. I reviewed it at NPR (spoiler alert for the first game, Horizon Zero Dawn).

At Wired, I talked about playing something out of my comfort zone while waiting for Horizon Forbidden West (Jurassic World Evolution 2 is a fantastic game, y’all). I also talked about why the open world in Horizon Forbidden West isn’t intimidating to me, while Witcher 3’s made me feel overwhelmed.

This month’s episode of our podcast, Desi Geek Girls, also featured gaming — Preeti talked about the Spider-Man PS4 game while I discussed why I love Horizon Zero Dawn.

Star Trek and Moonfall

Over at StarTrek.com, I wrapped up the midseason finale of Star Trek: Prodigy with a recap. My recaps of Star Trek: Picard’s second season will go live starting Friday, so if you’re watching, feel free to come over there and read my recaps! I am going to try to explain as much as I can if you’re not overly familiar with Star Trek canon.

I also wrote a piece at Slate about the terrible-fabulous Roland Emmerich movie Moonfallanalyzing the science of the movie.

What I recommend

I’m currently reading Alex Segura’s Secret Identity, which is out in March. It’s a crime novel against the backdrop of 1970s comics, and it’s just such a fantastic read. If you’re a comics fan, that aspect of it feels like a cozy blanket, except with murder. I love it. I’m also listening to the audiobook of Light Years from Home by Mike Chen, which is character-driven science fiction. It’s narrated by Emily Woo Zeller and it’s just lovely.

Find me on social

Keep up with me on Twitter (@skrishna), Instagram (@skrishna), TikTok (@swapna_krishna), Facebook (Swapna Krishna), and YouTube (Swapna Krishna). I’, still doing video science communication, which you can mostly find on TikTok (but I’m trying to be better about posting it across social.
