Cannabis (FAR OUT, Episode 3), JWST, and more!
Hello all! It's hard to believe we're getting close to the end of summer — for those of you who have been fortunate enough to travel or take vacations, I hope you're somewhat rested and relaxed.
I spent the first week of July frantically writing my book -- it's a short, pocket guide to stargazing (and specifically using the night sky for mindfulness). It'll be coming out late next year, and of course I will spam you all with the link as soon as I have it.
It feels very weird but I'm also making plans for NYCC! I am really excited to go back to a con in person, so if you're planning any panels or events that you think I might be a good fit for (especially Star Trek or STEM related) feel free to reach out.
The big thing I'm thinking about these days is the images out of JWST and everything we're going to learn about the cosmos over the next few years. If you are playing catch up, you can find my JWST videos here (including what those "lens flares" are and comparisons with Hubble images). Our universe is an amazing place.
FAR OUT, Episode 3: Cannabis
I'm thrilled that the third episode of my PBS show, Far Out, is here and it's on cannabis! (Before you yell at me, let me remind you that this show is aimed at adults, not kids—while I hope kids enjoy it, they aren't the audience we're writing for hence why we covered this topic!)
Video games at Wired
Over at Wired, I wrote about how mobile gaming is good, actually, and buying something that isn't a must-have because value isn't solely defined by price vs hours spent (a privileged take, to be sure!)
Desi Geek Girls: SDCC news!
I swear to you we will talk about Ms Marvel (as soon as I finish it, it's so good but I am behind on everything), but until then, Preeti and I broke down all of the SDCC news we're excited about over on our podcast.
This week Swapna and Preeti talk about Preeti's book, SPIDER-MAN'S SOCIAL DILEMMA. Then they dive into all that SDCC 2022 news, including: The Dragon Prince season 4, Shazam: Fury of the Gods!, Star Trek, Wakanda Forever, and more!
Pop Culture recommendations
As I mentioned, I'm behind on everything, so not much new to recommend this month. I am really enjoying season 2 of Only Murders in the Building and the first season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was a masterpiece. I'm already overwhelmed by all the content coming out in August, so you can bet I'll fall even more behind!
